The feature allows a doctor to point their phone at a screen which contains an ID, written in English, snap a photo and automatically detect and then “pre-fill” that ID in the MedImage App ID field, before taking a patient’s photo. In the past, doctors have needed to type this ID in to the field on their phone keyboards, which can be error prone.
The scanning will, by default, search for New Zealand NHI numbers, but different ‘patterns’ can also be used in the app for other kinds of ID numbers.
Visual scanning is currently available in the MedImage App Beta.
Note: there are no QR codes on the PC required, and the feature will work with all Practice Management Systems e.g. MedTech32, MedTech Evolution, myPractice, provided you can visually see the ID in English.
Tip: Best results are found with the phone around 20cm away from the wording, and don’t be afraid to have other words in the same photo.
The Beta also features the ability to specify particular camera lenses on a phone, which prevents it from automatically changing focus/lens, particularly when doctors have an attached hardware lens e.g. a Dermascope.
